After 45 years in the media industry, Independent Media bids farewell to Deputy Executive Chairman and former CEO, Tony Howard.
Howard's illustrious career at Independent Media, formerly the Argus Group, began in 1970. Reflecting on his career, Howard has found that his journey at Independent was made up of many job titles rolled up into one great experience. Howard served as, among other positions, Financial Director and Chief Operating Officer.
Howard attributes his rise through the ranks to a number of great mentors and has modelled himself on them. "What's so nice about this business is working with the people. I was lucky to have excellent tutors who unstintingly shared their knowledge and experience," he said.
Executive Chairman of Independent Media, Dr Iqbal Survé, expressed his appreciation for Howard's contribution to the company. "He is one of those rare people in the media industry who are genuinely committed to its growth and development. That famous saying of having ink in his veins definitely applies to him. Tony has been a wonderful colleague and friend, a man of great wisdom and integrity and he has embraced the change that occurred following the ownership by Sekunjalo, with acceptance and support," Dr Survé said.
We wish Tony Howard well in his retirement and we are certain that his legacy of achievement and encouragement will live on at Independent Media.
