Independent Media proudly announces the following senior appointments: WALLY MBHELE is the new editor of Sunday Independent.
The appointment comes into immediate effect. Wally joined Independent Media in November 2014 as editor-at -large. He is a seasoned journalist who has held various editorial positions at several publications, including City Press and Sunday Times, and has worked as a newspaper journalist for over 20 years.
In 1999, Wally was named co-recipient of the Outstanding Journalism Award which was presented to him by late President Nelson Mandela on behalf of the Foreign Correspondents' Association. He received further professional accolades when in 2005, he was named co-recipient of the Mondi Shanduka Award for Best Commentary and Analysis communications consultant for the past two years.
Wally replaces Jovial Rantao who has been tasked to lead Independent Media's Africa strategy. He will be responsible for driving the company's activities in the rest of Africa.
SHANNON EBRAHIM joins Independent Media as Group Foreign Editor. Shannon has a solid background in and extensive experience of the international environment having worked in various capacities. Before joining Independent Media she worked as an International Affairs Consultant for Al Jazeera and Your Middle East. Her experience also includes: Director for Asylum Seeker Management in the Department of Home Affairs; Project Manager: East Africa and the Middle East for the National Intelligence Coordinating Committee and she served in the Presidential Support Unity, specialising in conflict in Africa and the Middle East.
